An apology letter is written when you want to show someone that you are sorry and regret for doing something wrong that have hurt the other person. Apologizing for your mistake is the most difficult thing to do. It takes a lot of courage to realize your mistake and admit it in front of somebody. Though there’s always an option for confessing in person, but many people find it difficult to do it face to face and hesitate either out of guilt, shame or embarrassment.   • An apology letter is a letter of guilt expressing grief for doing wrong to someone.  It is nothing more than a written apology in the form of a letter.
  • An apology letter should elaborate the situation. However it should not be too lengthy, but it should tell the other person about the event that led to the mishap and the writer must explain why he did that.
  • Most importantly, the letter must reflect that the writer holds himself responsible and promises not to repeat such thing in future. It should also ask for forgiveness and, if suitable, should contain compensation.

Tips to write an apology letter

  • It is important to maintain seriousness. Don’t write a joke or else it will create a negative impression on the reader.
  • Your letter should discuss necessary things.  The reader should be able to understand what you’re saying and why are you writing this letter.
  • Never write unnecessary things and just stick to relevant content and mention only about the event that happened
  • It is important to be honest.  Unless and until you actually feel sorry, there’s no sense of writing the letter. You must describe the situations factually.
  • Just be logical and the conclusion of your letter should be based on common sense rather instead of mere wishful thinking.
  • Be consistent and never disagree to what you said earlier.  Maintain consistency throughout your message.
  • Write the letter with your heart and tell the person how bad you are feeling and that you want to apologize from heart.
  • Though it doesn’t matter much but still try to use correct grammar and check upon incorrect spellings.
  • Write the letter as soon as possible after the event happened.
  • It is often recommended to hand write the letter as it gives the letter a personal touch and the reader feels more connected.
  • Address the person you are writing the letter by their official name instead of nick names.
  • Mention in your letter that you feel awfully sorry for the act and assure not to repeat it in future.
  • Once you are done with writing, read your letter again and edit it accordingly.
